How Denver Does National Tequila Day

1 Tequila, 2 Tequila...

Sunday, July 24 is National Tequila Day. With Denver’s rich Mexican history, a day of this importance will not go by unnoticed. Denver bars and restaurants are pulling out all the stops for a festive weekend filled with all types of tequila. The question is, can we keep up?

La Sandia
In what has got to be one the most inventive of tequila endeavors, both of Richard Sandoval’s La Sandia restaurants in Denver will serve Tequila Popsicles on Sunday. These ingenious alcohol delivery vessels will be in a variety of flavors including grapefruit, pink peppercorn, green apple, coconut, plum and mango. They will also be selling for only $2 each. (Stapleton, 8340 Northfield Blvd., Unit 1690; Park Meadows, 8419 Park Meadows Center Dr.)

La Biblioteca and Zengo
The place that calls itself Denver’s Tequila Library will obviously be observing National Tequila Day with a specialty cocktail. The Sweet & Spicy Paloma features anejo tequila from Richard Sandoval and Patron with muddled grapefruit and serrano peppers, fresh agave nectar, lime juice and a splash of soda. You can also get this cocktail at next door neighbor Zengo. (1610 Little Raven St. Ste. 200: 720-904-0965)

La Loma
This historic Denver restaurant is relocating to South Broadway in August, but until then, guests can enjoy one last classic Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri at the traditional location in the Highlands for only $9 this weekend. This frozen concoction is fresh from the blender with whipped cream to give you one last brain freeze before the big move. (2527 W. 25th Ave.; 303-433-8300)

The Corner Office
Downtown The Corner Office will serve up Mezcal Flights with Roasted Crickets for National Tequila Day. Yes, you read that right. — they'll be serving Chili-Lime Seasoned Roasted Crickets that will pair perfectly with smoky mezcal. Crickets are a delicacy around the world, so get over it. Not interested in crickets? Then enjoy Dark Souls, a cocktail made with Herradura Reposado, Oloroses Sherry, Yellow Chartruese and orange bitters. (1401 Curtis St.; 303-825-6500)

Second Home Kitchen + Bar
Over in Cherry Creek, Second Home is keeping it simple with La Paloma, which is Milagro Silver Tequila, lime, grapefruit soda and salt. Enjoy one on the secluded outdoor patio this weekend. (150 Clayton St.; 303-253-3000)
