Show Dad Some Love this Father's Day with Eats, Drinks and Smokes
Good ole’ dad. Are you really going to get him another tie this year? Now that we’re adults, let’s show dad some respect by treating him to some delicious adult treats. You might want to hurry up because Father’s Day is this Sunday, June 15. Here’s where to make dad feel special this Father’s Day weekend in Denver.
Avanti Wines/Gars and Grapes (9046 W. Bowles Ave.; 303-904-7650)
Does dad like wine? Cigars? Both? You are in luck as this Littleton shop has the best of each. What originally started as a premium cigar shop also jumped into the wine business when Griff Griffin bought the place several years ago. Now you can enjoy samples his fine Colorado wines while perusing the walk-in cigar humidor. DrinkDenver recommends either of his red blends, 3 Amigos or Mystique. Cigars include Astal, Don Diego, Perdomo and Sancho Panza.
Central Bistro (1691 Central Street; 303-477-4582)
Does dad enjoy a wee bit ‘o dram? Take him to Central Bistro for Father’s Day. Everyone will get to enjoy these brunch specials: $12 for three Baja Shrimp Tacos, $15 Ribeye Benny, $12 Omelettes and the $11 Bruce Willis French Toast featuring cigar-smoked and Fruit Loop crusted French Toast with Whiskey Syrup. All dads dining at the bistro will receive a free dram of whiskey.
La Biblioteca de Tequila (1610 Little Raven St.; 720-904-0965)
Denver’s largest tequila library has the perfect gift for a spirit-loving dad. Get your dad a private bottle locker with his own personal bottle of tequila or any other bottle of his favorite spirit. The space is labeled, dated and kept under lock and key until Dad comes in to enjoy. The best part of this gift? If Dad is feeling generous, he can offer his locker to friends and colleagues. Wouldn’t it be cool for dad to say, “Hey, just go try a sample of my tequila from my private locker at La Biblioteca”? Now that’s a gift that keeps on giving.
Second Home Kitchen + Bar: (150 Clayton Ln.; 303-253-3000)
For dads who like to eat, take him to Second Home in Cherry Creek for all-you-can-eat fried chicken with Southern sides. Sides include cornbread, green beans, whipped potatoes, coleslaw and biscuits. Dinner is $22 per person, but only dads get a half-priced beer to wash it all down.
The Corner Office (1401 Curtis St.; 303-825-6500)
Dad’s and BBQ are always a good combination and The Corner Office is offering up a Picnic to Go. It’s a picnic basket loaded with Dad’s choice of BBQ chicken or pulled pork, coleslaw, spiked watermelon salad, cornbread and a four-pack of sodas from the Rocky Mountain Soda Company. Take to the soccer game, Jazz in the Park or just home to the backyard. Order at least one day ahead of time and one $55 basket feeds three to four people. Add extra servings for grandpas, uncles and nephews at $15 each.
Tom’s Brew Shop (883 Parfet St., Ste. J; 303-232-5347)
Perhaps dad likes to make his own brew rather than drink someone else’s. Then head to Tom’s Brew Shop in Lakewood for supplies, ingredients and equipment. Everything dad needs to start home brewing or to upgrade his existing equipment can be found here. Don’t know what dad needs for home brewing? Get him a gift certificate. Find Owner Tom Schurmann in his shop near the exit at Sixth and Simms Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 6 PM and Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM.
