2013 Preview: 11 New Breweries to Look Forward to in the Denver Region
Helping prove the (very true) notion that Denver is the best place in the world to drink beer, no fewer than 11 new brewpubs and micro-breweries will be opening in and around the metro area in 2013. That’s a lot of new suds to look forward to. Read on to get the skinny on what’s coming.
Black Sky Brewery: Opening in March, this devilish Santa Fe Arts District brewhouse will serve beers such as Dark Thought Brown and Fallen Angel Imperial Stout (490 Santa Fe Dr.).
The Brew on Broadway (The BOB): Opening late February, this Englewood spot will have double the brew, serving both beer and coffee. Follow the buildout on Facebook (3445 South Broadway, Englewood).
Brewery Rickoli: Opened late 2012, this is the first brewery to open in Wheat Ridge and serves up cask-conditioned beers on a hand-pumped English beer engine (4335 Wadsworth Blvd., Wheat Ridge).
Cannonball Creek Brewery: Launching on January 19, this new Golden brewery gets its moniker from the former name of Clear Creek. Find it just down the street from the Coors plant, bold indeed (393 Washington Ave., Golden).
Colorado + Liquid Art Works: The Wheat Ridge brewpub (coming in March) will have a one-barrel nano-brewery system, so it won’t be producing a lot of beer. Instead, Colorado + Liquid Arts will focus on our state’s many wonderful craft brews, with a 56 tap system featuring their own brews on four taps along with Colorado craft beers on the other 52 (6995 West 38th Ave., Wheat Ridge).
De Steeg Brewing: Opening February 2013, this will be the newest brewery in the Highlands area of Denver. The brewery is located at in a former retail space with an entrance in the alley across from the Oriental Theater. De Steeg means “the alley” in Dutch — you just learned something new today (4342 Tennyson St.).
Fate Brewing: Due to launch this month, this new Boulder brewpub will feature fresh local ingredients, a 10-barrel brewing system and 30 taps serving up their in-house beers along with other craft brews. Don’t miss the pub website’s slick URL (1600 38th St., Boulder).
Hall Brewing: Opening any day now on a family farm outside Parker, Hall Brewing is led by master brewer Aubrey Hall. This family-owned business built the brewery entirely by hand using all Colorado beetle-kill pine. Make the trek for some country brew near the big city (8530 Vinegaroon Rd., Parker).
J Wells Brewery: How far can you go with a one-and-a-half-barrel homebrewing kit? Find out by visiting this just opened Boulder nano-brewery (2516 49th St., Boulder).
Kokopelli Beer Company: Opened late 2012, this 10-barrel brewhouse in Westminster hopes to add food to the menu soon (8877 N Harlan St., Westminster).
Lost Highway Brewing: This latest venture from the owners of the Cheeky Monk Belgian Beer Café is due to open in March and will feature Belgian-inspired brews. We’re most looking forward to the giant rooftop patio (520 East Colfax Ave.).
