The Perfect Crime - American-Style Blonde

Stllwater, Evil Twin and 12% Imports turn out a gem

The Perfect Crime - American-Style Blonde

The booming craft beer scene has produced quite a few magnetic, engaging personalities. Two veritable rock stars of the craft beer world —“Gypsy” brewers Brian Strumke of Stillwater Artisanal Ales and Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø of Evil Twin Brewing — have teamed up to create a beer with the man in charge of distributing their fine works, Brian Ewing (owner of 12 Percent Imports).

Together, the trio hopes to commit what they call “The Perfect Crime,” a unique collaboration shrouded in some tongue-in-cheek mystery. So far, the crew has collaborated on a European blonde and an American blonde, the latter of which I tasted for this review. As with many of Evil Twin’s and Stillwater’s offerings, Perfect Crime beers are an imported product, this time brewed in Belgium at Scheldebrouerij.

Poured from a slender 12-oz. bottle, American-Style Blonde is very lively and active, presenting a burst of foamy white head and a bready aroma. The beer’s scent reminds of a crisp, well crafted pilsner, balanced with distinct hints of Belgian yeast and citrus. Upon first taste, notes of citrus and bread are discovered, and the finish is a bright hop flavor. This brew is a truly refreshing, a full-flavored blonde that finishes crisp and satisfying.

Evil Twin Brewing and Stillwater Artisanal Ales have both been creating some exceedingly intriguing and sought-after beers in recent years, each in their own unique styles. Collaborating with Brian Ewing of 12% Imports has created a brew that combines their stylistic goals, resulting in delightful, small production beers. Look for the Perfect Crime anywhere you can find Evil Twin Brewing, Stillwater Artisnal Ales or any other 12% Imports products. (Of note, Strumke has finally found a home of sorts when he partnered to ope tavern and market Of Love and Regret in Baltimore this past May.)  As a bonus, try to get hold of the European version, to compare and contrast with the American style.
