10 Barrel Brewing Creates Beer to Celebrate America's Last Blockbuster Store
Times sure have changed, except in Bend, Oregon, where the last Blockbuster in the country is still up and running like it’s 1995. The fact that the Blockbuster location has stood the test of time—and Netflix—deserves a celebration, so the brewers at Bend’s 10 Barrel Brewing created “The Last Blockbuster,” a beer to celebrate the store’s great feat.
The Oregon store became the last Blockbuster in the country following the closure of a longstanding store in Alaska. The collab beer will debut on September 21 at a Blockbuster themed block party in the town. If you live on the West Coast and are unable to make it to the block party, the limited edition beer will be available at all six of 10 Barrel’s brewpubs.
The beer itself is a black ale described by Chris Cox, cofounder of the brewery, to Business Insider as, “pair[ing] perfectly with buttery theater popcorn and your favorite movie-sized chocolate with a light body, smooth finish and hints of nostalgia.”
For now, it doesn’t seem like Bend’s Blockbuster location has any worries of impending closure. Being the last Blockbuster on earth has made the location an attraction for tourists looking for a hit of 90s nostalgia. Ah, simpler times.
