Ommegang & Game of Thrones' Latest Beer, Mother of Dragons, Will Be Released This Fall
Though Game of Thrones won't return until April 2019, Ommegang Brewery & HBO's collaboration shows no signs of slowing down — Mother of Dragons, the third beer in this year's Royal Reserve collection, will be released on September 29.
The beer, named for Daenerys Targaryen — the foreign queen who, with her two remaining dragons, may well end up seizing the Iron Throne — is a blend of smoked porter and Belgian kriek, representing the "smoke and fire" that Daenerys uses against her enemies. Clocking in at 6.5% ABV, this beer, with its mahogany color, aromas of chocolate covered cherries, and a smoky finish, is a perfect pairing for the show's upcoming and undoubtedly powerful final season.
When the bottle, which comes in 750 ml and will cost $12.99, hits shelves this fall, fans will want to snap it up before the fourth and final Royal Reserve bottle is announced before the year's end, and build up their beer collection before the second half of season 7 premieres.
