Budweiser is Now Selling an Orange Beer

Budweiser is gearing up for the summer, and this time it’s not just changing its name to America for a few months. Instead, the behemoth mega-brewery is adding a new flavor to its iconic Bud Light line: Bud Light Orange. The new flavor will be available from April until September.

In a press release, Budweiser revealed that the main incentive was to attract millennial consumers, writing “Our millennial consumers are eager to try new, flavored options in the light lager category. We wanted to create something new to engage with these consumers and bring them into the Bud Light family.” Budweiser’s sales in recent years have plateaued, and Bud Light sales actually dropped by almost 6% in 2017, the largest drop in the brand’s history, according to Business Insider. "Flavored beer has seen steady growth with consumers continually looking for higher quality beverages made with real, natural flavors," the press release read in a manner that seems to try to justify the decision.

The “natural flavors” described in the release are reportedly given by the infusion of lime and orange peels, though reviews on Beer Advocate and Untappd have not been widely favorable to the flavor, with many likening it to orange soda. Still, a soda-like beer can be acceptable in the warmer months, and no matter what, it can’t be worse than Bud Light Clamato.
