Philly’s Yard Brewing Co. and Boston’s Harpoon Brewery are putting faith in their home teams by making a bet on the outcome of Super Bowl LII, which takes place on Sunday, February 4 at 6:30 PM between the Eagles and Patriots.
Along with obvious bragging rights, the pact details that the winning team’s beer will have to fill the taps of the loser’s brewery for an entire day and the staff will have to sport the winning team’s apparel.
“To our friends at Harpoon: Get ready to wear some Green, a very dynamic and blue-collar kind of color – and it looks great on everyone, from casual fans to pretty boy quarterbacks,” Yards Founder and Brewmaster Tom Kehoe confidently stated in a press release.
The smack talk continued ,with Harpoon Brewery CEO and co-founder
Dan Kenary telling the Boston Globe, “When the Patriots take home the W, we’ll be celebrating with a cool pint of Harpoon IPA and smiles on our faces, knowing that everyone at Yards Brewing Company is doing the same. Go Pats!”
It’s not all harsh words — each brewery is doing a bit of good with the publicity they’re getting from the gamble. From now through Super Bowl Sunday, Yards is donating $1 from every pint and $10 from every keg of Philly Pale Ale sold in the taproom to charity (specifically,
Prevention Point), and Harpoon is doing the same with their Harpoon Fresh Tracks.
