Brace Yourself: A Wine Shortage is Imminent
The wine shortage is due mostly to terrible weather conditions, including spring frosts and overly warm weather causing droughts. Of all the countries, Italy was hit hardest, with dropping 21%, while France and Spain slipped by 15%. Together, the three countries produce half of the wine consumed globally. California, the fourth largest wine producer in the world, is in no position to pick up the slack either, after horrific, fatal wildfires swept through the state’s major wine regions in September.
With all of this loss of wine, market analysts are predicting a spike in cost, so if you can, get out there and stock up on your vino now.
