Breckenridge is charming Colorado mountain town. Located in Summit County not far from I-70, this high altitude escape from the city is only an hour and a half away. For most Denverites, Breckenridge is for powder hounds because of all the snow the Tenmile Mountain Range receives in the winter. Events like the Ullr Polar Plunge show Breck knows how to have fun no matter how low the temperature goes. However, the area is just as much fun in the spring and summer with mountain biking and hiking on the snowless ski slopes and fishing in the Blue River. The Canteen Tap House & Tavern (208 N. Main St.; 970-453-0063)

Founded by three former ski bums, The Canteen knows that outdoor enthusiasts need good hearty food to refuel and delicious drinks to tell stories over. The $10 Canteen Cup Cocktails menu will help you embellish those mountain conquests. Enjoy a selection of Colorado craft beers and an outstanding wine list to finish a day with friends.

 

Downstairs at Eric’s (111 S. Main St.; 970-453-1401)

We’re not sure if the name is a play on that Yaz album from the 1980s, but we do know this is Breck’s best sport bar. The bar boasts 29 HDTVs, 25 arcade games, 30 beers on tap and 50 beers by the bottle. The restaurant also has gluten-free items on the menu, including pizza.

 

 

Modis (113 S. Main St.; 970-453-4330)

For a bit of style, visit Modis and sit at the gorgeous mahogany bar that leads to an even more gorgeous mahogany staircase. All cocktails are $12 and the list is long, over 50 to choose from. The bar also has a well cultivated wine list. For those skipping the alcohol, the restaurant makes its own fruit mocktails and Ginger Beer.

 

 

 

Apres Handcrafted Libations (130 S. Main St.; 970-423-6700)

This bar located in the historic Whitehead House Hotel building is for imbibers of all types. Find craft beers, fine wines, world-class whiskies and hand-crafted cocktails all in one place. The bar doesn’t serve food, but guests can bring their own or order from nearby restaurants. Guests will find the tap list on a chalkboard near the entrance with 30 rotating beers. The bar is family-friendly until 9 PM. Then the kiddos gotta go.

 

 

Relish (137 S. Main St.; 970-453-0989)

For an intimate experience, visit Relish located upstairs overlooking the Blue River Plaza. This refined establishment is famous for its “Beer Cellar” with rare beers bottles from near and far.  However, this isn’t a stuffy beer bar because guests can get 24 oz. cans of PBR for only $2 at happy hour. The red, white and blue cans are served inside marble wine chillers. There is also a Cocktail of the Day and an extensive wine list.

 

Liquid Lounge (520 S. Main St.; Unit 2; 970-453-2782)

Breck’s only rave bar, the Liquid Lounge has DJs seven days a week with daily drink and shot specials. Open from 7 PM-2 AM.

 

Park & Main (500 S. Main St.; 970-453-9493)

Get a head start on your day or get over the previous night’s binge at Park & Main in the La Cima Mall. Park & Main is open all day, but is famous for its breakfast fare including some tasty brunch cocktails like the Park & Main Bloody Mary and the Peach Puree Bellini. The bar also has a selection of vodka, tequila and bourbon infusions made in house and a unique selection of beers including $2 cans of Olympia.

 

 

While the bar crawl happens on Main Street, Breck is a growing area and these fine libation locations are just south of downtown. Both are worth the walk, bike, snowshoe or free shuttle bus for a sip.

 

 

Broken Compass Brewery (68 Continental Ct.; 970-368-2772)

Breck’s newest brewery features a mixture of classic styles, like Helles and IPA, but also some interesting tastes such as the Ginger Pale Ale and a Coconut Porter. While the tap room is small, it is dog and kid friendly and food trucks can often be found on weekends or do like the locals and partake in a Monday night potluck dinner. Breckenridge Distillery & Restaurant (1925 Airport Rd.; 970-547-9759)

The world’s highest distillery (9,600 feet above sea level) has developed exceptional award-winning spirits including the classic Breckenridge Bourbon and Breckenridge Vodka. Recently the distillery opened a restaurant featuring shareable plates with a variety of meats and salads and the bar has a diverse cocktail list using the distillery’s bounty.  Next door take a tour of the distillery. There is also a downtown tasting room located at 137 S. Main St. open from 11 AM-9 PM daily.
