With our country’s
increasing acceptance of marijuana, it’s unsurprising that someone developed a weed-infused spirit. In fact, it’s more surprising that it didn’t happen earlier. But now you can order a bottle of cannabis-infused vodka.
The vodka comes from Humboldt Distillery, in Humboldt County, California. The distillery has previously produced an organic vodka (emphatically not crab flavored) and an organic spiced rum, as well as a few fruit brandies only available at the distillery. Recently, it has started producing Humboldt’s Finest, a vodka infused with legally grown cannabis. Ironically, given the name, the hemp comes from Oregon.
While marijuana was recently legalized in the state of Oregon, it’s still illegal in California, as well as most states. If you’re looking to get high on the stuff, you’ll have to do your own infusing (if it’s legal in your state, that is): the cannabis only lends the spirit a botanical flavor, with negligible THC present. The distiller, Abe Stevens, suggests it as a nice alternative to gin in cocktails. But with the growing legality of marijuana, a THC potent alcohol could very well be right around the corner. We’ll just have to wait and see while enjoying Humboldt’s Finest in the meantime.
