New Beer Mile Records Set Across the Board at Last Week's World Championships in Austin, TX
The Beer Mile course is split into four 1/4 mile stretches. Before each stretch, participants must drink a 12 oz beer. Time spent drinking the beer counts towards the overall time of each runner, so “chugging” beers is a common tactic. In an interview with Runner’s World, Montes admitted she much preferred scotch whisky to beer but opted to still do the race, saying she wanted to prove to her daughter she could drink beer and run. She finished with a time of 20:24, beating her daughter, 47, by almost a minute. Her son-in-law, also running, did not finish the course. After the race Montes took her daughter to a Hooters for wings and scotch.
