AB InBev Aquires L.A.-Based Golden Road Brewing Co.

by Nina Starner on Sep 24, 2015 in Beer

The past few weeks have brought with them plenty of beer acquisition news – MillerCoors recently purchased the majority stake in St. Archer’s Brewing Co., and Heineken now owns half of Lagunitas – and yesterday was no exception. Anheuser-Busch announced, just in time for the Great American Beer Festival, that they’ve taken ownership of L.A.’s largest craft brewery Golden Road Brewing Company.

Though there aren’t many details just yet, this deal will certainly allow for Golden Road to find its place beyond the West Coast. While their production levels are crazy high (they’re on pace to produce 40,000 barrels in 2015), they’ve only been distributed throughout California, Nevada, and Arizona. With this new wide distribution comes one caveat – now that a major beer player controls its operations, Golden Road likely will stop qualifying as a “craft brew,” but just because it isn’t craft doesn’t make it any less drinkable.

Keep an eye out for their year round beers – which include the Wolf Among Weeds IPA, the Golden Road Hefeweizen, the Get Up Offa That Brown, and the Point the Way IPA – to hopefully hit shelves across the country soon enough.
