Where to Drink and Celebrate This Labor Day Weekend in Denver
Summer is winding down, but it’s not time to get out those winter ski jackets just yet. Let’s enjoy one more big summertime party. Denver isn’t about to let Labor Day Weekend go by without some outdoor fun and a delicious concoction or two. Here are some places to enjoy Labor Day Weekend with a drink in hand.
Taste of Colorado
Celebrating its 32nd year, Taste of Colorado at Civic Center Park is Denver’s biggest food and drink festival. Over 50 of the city’s best restaurants and pubs will be represented as the park turns into an outdoor food court. Coors, Colorado Native, Barefoot Wines, Mike’s Hard Lemonade, and Eldorado Natural Spring Water are the drink sponsors, however, many more adult beverages from local brewpubs will be provided. Featuring incredible live music, the festival will host Kansas, Morris Day and the Time, Joan Jett, and close with Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers along with other great musical acts. To attend the event is free, but food and drink are PAYG. The festival begins at 11:30 AM Friday and will end at 8 PM Monday. (Civic Center Park, Colfax & Bannock)
The Big Wonderful
The Big Wonderful has been running all summer long and lucky for us, will continue into the fall. Saturday, September 5, is the Labor Day Weekend Big Wonderful, and it will feature four musical acts as well as an outdoor beer garden, food trucks, and craft vendors. With four breweries nearby (Crooked Stave, Black Shirt, Epic, and Great Divide), there should be some tasty beers to try as well. The event runs from noon until 7:30 PM. (2500 Lawrence St.; 26th & Lawrence)
Hudson Gardens Brews & Views
Take in gorgeous garden views while sipping delicious brews in Littleton at Hudson Gardens on Saturday, September 5, from 1 to 4 PM. Celebrate with end-of-summer flowers still in bloom under an open mountain sky. Some 30 odd local breweries will be serving some fine beers including Avery, Blue Spruce, Boggy Draw, Chain Reaction, Colorado Cider Co., Crow Hop, Elevation, Fermaentra, Grist, Living the Dream, Mockery, Odd 13, Pateros Creek, Redstone Meadery, RiffRaff, Tivoli, and Weldwerks. For the full list or to purchase tickets, visit the website. Live music and food trucks can also be enjoyed. Cost is $25 for those tasting and $5 for non-drinkers. The $5 non-drinker fee will go directly to Interfaith Community Services, a local non-profit group providing basic services to those in need. (6115 S Santa Fe Dr., Littleton; 303-797-8565)
Rockies vs. Giants
The Colorado Rockies have a home stand against division rivals the San Francisco Giants starting Thursday, September 3. Even though the Rockies are in last place in the NL West, there is still hope that the Rockies will take the Giants for a game or two. Enjoy the game with a beverage from one of the 52 beer taps at the Tavern Ballpark or get there early for a pre-game beer at The Blue Moon Brewing Company at The Sandlot on the southeast corner of the ballpark. Phish at Dick’s Sporting Goods Stadium
Denver favorites Phish will perform three straight nights at Dick’s Sporting Goods Stadium over Labor Day Weekend, September 4-6. Along with adult beverages, there might be some smoke in the air you can breathe in second hand. (6000 Victory Way, Commerce City)
Taylor Swift at Pepsi Center
Yes, the pop princess will be playing the Pepsi Center on Saturday, September 5, and the Can has plenty of places to get a pre-show and during-show drink. Fanatics can also get a pre-show meal and beverage at Brooklyn’s Denver in the parking lot or The Tailgate Roadhouse on the end of the block. (1000 Chopper Cir.; 7th St. & Auraria Pkwy)
Tavern Downtown
The Tavern Downtown will have a ravin’ rooftop dance party on Sunday, September 6, featuring DJ Beat Breaker from NY along with a bevy of other fine DJs. Drink specials include $3.50 Bud and Bud Lights, $4 Pearl Vodka drinks, and $4 Jager, Fireball, and Rumchata shots. The party starts at 5 PM. (1949 Market St.; 303-299-0100)
Viewhouse Ballpark
Neon & White will be the theme at the Labor Day weekend Sunday Funday at the Viewhouse Ballpark. Groove to the sounds of DJ Scene from Las Vegas while enjoying brunch with bottomless Mimosas and Denver’s largest Bloody Mary Bar. There will also be a volleyball tournament, yard games, and plenty of contests with prizes galore. Wear something neon and white to be eligible or use the hashtag #VHSundayFunday for Instagram prizes. (2015 Market St.; 720-282-1555)
