One byproduct of the craft brewing craze is the infiltration of breweries into neighborhoods. Each year, it seems like more and more people in Denver wind up living within an easy walk of great suds.

Now, the neighborhood around Denver’s Regis University—a mix of young professionals and college kids—gets a brewery of its own, in the form of
Goldspot Brewing Company. While other breweries launched with more fanfare, a spot-check of this recent addition to the Mile-High-City craft-beer scene revealed a pleasant neighborhood ambience, a few tasty beers, and some good people behind the bar.
Opened in February, Goldspot’s location is fairly small—the occupancy is listed at 64—with an interior made up of exposed brick and ductwork in a renovated storefront. Of course, there’s the ubiquitous glass garage door that opens up to the sidewalk, and, somehow, the owners make an indoor corn toss range happen. Really, Goldspot is in the perfect place for anyone walking, hiking, biking, crawling, skiing or snowshoeing to a neighborhood brewery.
Beers on tap during my visit included Julia’s Blessing Kolsch at 4.7% ABV, Pantalones Rojo Red IPA, an IPA-amber hybrid at 5.5%, Gus’ Breakfast Porter at 6.5%, Cutter IPA at 6.75%, Pale Eddy Hoppy Wheat, a wheat beer-pale ale hybrid at 5%, Black River Imperial Stout at 9.4% and a hefeweizen falling at 4.5% ABV.
If you make it up to Goldspot, I found the Pantalones Rojo Red spot on.
While I drained my various glasses of Rojo Red, the brewers were more than happy to chat up their beers and their efforts to launch the enterprise. It was quiet for a Friday night, but I found the interaction reminded me of what visiting a craft brewery was like before everyone decided they liked beers with more flavor than your standard yellow fizzies.
Pints run $4–6 and growler fills will set you back $8–15. Goldspots’s hours are Monday, 3–8 PM; Tuesday–Thursday, 3– 10 PM; Friday, 3–11 PM; Saturday, 12–10 PM, and Sunday, 12–8 PM. The taproom is dog friendly and food is order in, but they do have Zapp’s Voodoo Chips for some in-brewery munching.
