What to Do and Where to Drink This Memorial Weekend in Denver

Memorial Day Weekend has always been the official beginning to the summer party season with lots of things to do and all kinds of events taking place this year. Why not join the fun? Don’t forget to say “thank you for your service” to our men and women in the military. Because of their work and sacrifice, we can enjoy a drink this three-day weekend.

The Big Wonderful
Beginning May 2, the huge outdoor market and neighborhood party called The Big Wonderful will begin its summer run every Saturday starting at noon. Located at 26th and Lawrence St., this outdoor sustainable market will be a mix of food truck paradise, flea market, craft fair and garden party. Enjoy the outdoor craft beer and cocktail garden built out of storage containers. There will also be a beach volleyball court and an entertainment stage. You'll find fun for the whole family until 7:30 PM. (2500 Lawrence St., River North)

Brews & Views Beer Festival
Enjoy the flowers at Hudson Gardens on Sunday, May 24, at the Brews & Views Beer Festival. The garden will be in full bloom during Memorial Day Weekend, and guests can stroll the gardens while tasting beers from 25 local breweries. Ride your bike on the Carter Greenway Trail and make an afternoon of it with food trucks, music and Mother Nature. The festival runs from 1 to 4 PM and tickets are $25 for beer tasters and only $5 for designated drivers. (Hudson Gardens, 6115 Santa Fe Dr., Littleton)

Denver Comic Con
Let out your inner superhero, or super villian, at the Denver Convention Center. Denver Comic Con 2015 is happening Memorial Day Weekend, May 23-25. Why is Drink Denver telling you this? Because Breckenridge Brewery is one of the event’s largest sponsors and will be pouring a special beer brewed just for this spectacle. Hulk’s Mash is a mango pale ale that will be available to guests of Denver Comic Con along with a special souvenir glass. Tickets start at $35. (Denver Convention Center, Downtown)

Colorado Rockies
Celebrate this holiday weekend with American’s favorite pastime, baseball. The Colorado Rockies take on the San Francisco Giants all weekend with games on Friday, May 22, a double header on Saturday, May 23, and an afternoon game on Sunday, May 24. Coors Field is the only stadium in the country with a brewery, The Sandlot, home of Blue Moon, on site, and The Rooftop overlooking right field features some of Denver’s best cocktails and Denver’s longest bar with beer taps that run 52 feet, 80 inches long. Batting practice specials on drinks are available for those who arrive early. Tickets start at $15. (Coors Field, Downtown)

Denver Day of Rock
This annual rock and roll party on Saturday, May 23, is for both adults and kids and takes place on the 16th Street Mall. There will be five stages set up along the mall this year featuring 25 local, regional and national music acts. Headliners are Mat Kearney and St. Paul and the Broken Bones. Spirit sponsors include Black Magic Spiced Rum, Breckenridge Bourbon, Broker’s Dry Gin, Deep Eddy Vodka and Tequila Exotica. The beer garden will feature brews from Avery, Bristol Brewing, Great Divide, Left Hand, Odell Brewing, Oskar Blues, Renegade Brewing, Ska and Tivoli. The event is FREE to watch, but food and drinks are pay as you go. Donations will benefit local children’s charities through Amp the Cause. (16th Street Mall, Downtown)

Elitch Gardens Theme and Water Park
It wouldn’t be a summer weekend without a visit to the amusement park. Elitch Gardens is now open for the season, and while the kids are running around on the rides, Mom and Dad can enjoy the Blue Moon Beer Garden or Draughtworks Tap House. Tickets start at $34.99. (2000 Elitch Cir., Downtown)

The Ultimate Memorial Day Party
Both locations of the ViewHouse, Ballpark and Centennial, will host The Ultimate Memorial Day Party outdoors on Sunday, May 24, starting at 2 PM. Enjoy all kinds of summer outdoor fun including a volleyball tournament, cornhole contest and a giant beer pong game. There will also be a dunk tank, inflatables for the kids and a live MC and DJ. The first 100 guests at both locations will get a free holiday t-shirt. Also everyone who shows a military ID will get 20% off food and drink all weekend, Friday through Monday. (Ballpark, 2015 Market St.; Centennial, 7101 S. Clinton St.)
