Denver's Third World of Beer Now Open Downtown
The third installment of the Metro area’s World of Beer taphouses is now open for business in Lower Downtown. The bar serves over 500 kinds of beer from the far reaches of the globe. It truly is a World of Beer.
While all World of Beer franchises are pretty much the same, brick façade, a wall of coolers filled with crafty beers that span the globe and over 30 taps of fresh beer, the World of Beer LoDo has something most other WOBs around the country do not. It has a kitchen. Yes, folks, this one serves food!! No scouring through 20 different take out menus, no having to yell your credit card number over the phone while a bunch of strangers listen, and no standing by the front door waiting for a delivery person. There is only one menu to read and the food arrives at the table hot and fresh. As to be expected, beer is a prime ingredient in the food menu.
The Chimay Burger is a ½ lb. flame broiled patty with Chimay Classique Cheese, sautéed mushrooms and caramelized onions on a brioche bun with house-made Chimay sauce. Tavern Taters are served with a beer cheese sauce made with savory bacon and jalapenos. The German Pretzel arrives at your table hanging from a small hook with butter dripping down the sides and onto the pretzel tray. The pretzel comes with a choice of yellow or spicy brown mustard or order a side of the yummy beer cheese sauce for an extra $2. The pretzels are crunchy on the outside and super soft on the inside. There are also a variety of sandwiches and flatbreads.
Of course beer is the reason to come to World of Beer, and craft connoisseurs won’t be disappointed. The bar will give you an iPad that contains every beer the bar serves. You can look up beers by draft or bottle, by country or style or even by color and ABV.
The downtown WOB location also has a special beer-infusing contraption, which consists of a large metal U-shaped tube sticking up from behind the bar. Part of the tube is glass so you can see the beer inside. Unfortunately on our visit, the contraption was broken, but the bar had recently poured a cider infused with kiwi. Even if it doesn’t work, the thing sure looks cool.
One more item of note, the restrooms here are nice. The Belmar WOB location has just two rooms, one for guys, one for gals, and the lines can get really long. Sometimes the women take over both restrooms and the guys have to use the mall’s public restrooms around the corner from the bar. Not a problem downtown.
World of Beer LoDo is located at 1555 16th Street, Ste. 102, and is open daily from 11 AM to 2 AM. However, on Football Sundays the bar and kitchen open at 10 AM and offer NFL Sunday Ticket so your favorite team is always on. World of Beer is also a full-service bar with house-made cocktails and spirits for those who need a break from all that beer. Taps rotate constantly, usually weekly, so be sure to check the website for keg tappings and tasting events.
