Autumn in a Glass: Denver's Best Fall Cocktails

The autumnal equinox was Monday, September 22, at 8:29 PM EDT. To celebrate, Denver’s bars and restaurants are putting fall’s best flavors on the cocktail menu. While some drinks are available to the thirsty masses now, most will be on menus starting October 1. Here are few drinks where you can taste the change in the weather.

Bad Dog: While most people think of beers when drinking at the Wynkoop, there is also a small but tasty cocktail menu. Try the Bad Dog which features Luna White Dog Whiskey, spiced apple cider and jalapeno honey syrup. This dog can’t be that bad. (1634 18th St.; 303-297-2700)

Colorado Sunset: This beer cocktail is served at the Viewhouse downtown. The drink is made with Blue Moon Wheat, X-Fusion and fresh oranges over ice. Seems fitting to serve Blue Moon beer since the brewery is next door at Coors Field. (2015 Market St.; 720-878-2015)

Flyin’ South: This unusual drink comes from TAG Burger Bar. The cocktail contains Pisco, Frangelico, lemon, bitter and egg white. You don’t see Pisco too often in Denver. Have one, and take off to southern climes. (1222 Madison St.; 303-736-2260)

Mind Your Beards!: On South Pearl Street, Session Kitchen has this fun cocktail. Mind Your Beards! is made with Old Overholt Rye, Amer Picon, Verjus and creole bitters. And as the name warns, try not to spill any on your beard. (1518 S. Pearl St.; 720-763-3387)

Orient Apple Mule: How about combining summer and fall? This featured cocktail at Marco’s Coal-Fired Pizza uses Absolute Orient Apple Vodka with ginger beer and lime for a summery drink with a touch of fall. (2129 Larimer St.; 303-296-700)

Tequila Martinez: At La Biblioteca, fall finds itself in a tequila cocktail. The Tequila Martinez uses reposado tequila shaken with spiced chai simple syrup and pumpkin puree for a delicious treat. Topped with ground cinnamon, this tequila cocktail will warm you up in cooler weather. (1610 Little Raven St., Ste. 200; 303-572-3000)

Writer’s Block: Over in the Ballpark Neighborhood, Trillium, Denver’s only restaurant to feature Scandinavian cuisine, likes to change up the cocktail menu often. Right now you can enjoy the Writer’s Block with Breaking & Entering Bourbon, Cocchi Rosa, Campari and Cloudberry preserves. (2134 Larimer St.; 303-379-9759)
