Catch-up on LowDown Brewery + Kitchen in Golden Triangle

Catch-up on LowDown Brewery + Kitchen in Golden Triangle

Lots of brewery start-ups build slowly—starting with small batches, building loyal followings, polishing their taproom and adding capacity in small increments.

LowDown Brewery + Kitchen obviously took a different path. LowDown’s taproom and restaurant occupies a deceptively large space on Lincoln Street in Denver’s Golden Triangle neighborhood. The place is sleek, modern and polished. For its location very near downtown Denver, there’s plenty of on-site parking—a growing rarity in the Mile High City these days. If the interior is full—or the day is too Colorado wonderful—LowDown has a large patio featuring one of the best views of the Rockies in the city. That patio also is home to a cornhole pitch, in case a beer lover needs to burn a calorie tossing a bean bag.

LowDown’s kitchen offers a full menu with as much locally sourced ingredients as the chef can get and a full bar. The menu—a fairly adventurous affair—serves up salads, soups, entrees, sandwiches, pizza and desserts with plenty of vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.

Of course, there’s plenty of beer on tap, too. On a recent visit, the taps featured plenty of delicious brews to sample, including LowDown IPA (6.9% ABV), Selfish Pale Ale (5% ABV), a White Ale (5% ABV) and Patio Pounding Pilz (5.2% ABV). Other styles LowDown produces include C3PA—a pale ale made with Citra, Centennial and Cascade hops varieties—and some darker brews including Lonely Sheep Scottish Ale, a Rye Porter and LowDown Dirty Shame Cascadia Dark Ale. The bartender said the taps will rotate frequently, and the brewers also have the cajones to offer a guest tap. LowDown sells growlers for in-home consumption, too.

LowDown certainly caters to a young urban crowd, but it’s certainly worth a drop-in by any craft beer lover or bar hopper. LowDown is open 11 AM–Midnight, Sunday through Thursday, and 11 AM–1 AM, Friday and Saturday.
