Martha Stewart Swears Gin Improved Her Scrabble Game

We’re told that gin will make you sin. But can it improve your abilities at playing Scrabble?

According to Martha Stewart, it can.

While speaking to fans at an exclusive breakfast engagement that took place during the Atlantic City Food & Wine Festival last weekend, America’s most trusted lifestyle expert went off on a bit of a tangent while demonstrating how she makes a Bloody Mary.

Reminiscing about the regular Friday night “drink fests” she enjoyed in her college days, she spoke of one particular bender where she hit paydirt playing Scrabble while drinking Dillitinis, gin martinis with the addition of pickled string beans.

“I scored three 50 word points, back to back,” she told fans, chalking up the winning streak to the copious amounts of good old Vitamin G she consumed that evening.

“It was almost as if the gin was helping me see the words,” she explained, adding that it was also the last time she drank gin for years. “I threw up all night, and didn’t drink gin again until just a few years ago.”

Going back as far as the Middle Ages, gin’s healing powers have been used to treat everything from kidney and stomach ailments to gallstones and gout. But this is perhaps the first time we’ve heard of it giving Scrabble players an added boost. But who’s going to argue with Martha Stewart?
