Boozy Brain Freeze: Where to Find Adult Milkshakes and Frozen Drinks in Denver
Remember the cold, creamy taste of a milkshake from when you were a kid? Well, it hasn’t gone away, it’s just grown up. Bars are bringing back that taste of childhood, but with a twist — bartenders are adding booze. Try one of these creamy delicious drinks around Denver this summer, but remember you must be 21 and older to partake.
The Broadmoor: It is somewhat surprising to find booze-filled milkshakes at such a refined resort, but staying at the Broadmoor is all play, whether on the golf course, the tennis court or the pool. At Play, the Broadmoor’s newest night spot, you’ll find six lanes of bowling and all kinds of adult milkshakes on the menu. Try the Perfect 300 with cake batter ice cream (you read that right!), vanilla rum and sprinkles or the S’Mores with Frangelico, whiskey, chocolate ice cream, graham cracker and marshmallow fluff. TAG Burger Bar: What could be better than a burger and a milkshake? TAG Burger Bar has what you crave with amazing burgers made from Angus beef, bison, turkey or salmon. However, what really has us is the Boom Boom Shake menu. Try Da Bomb with Jameson Irish Whiskey, Bailey’s Irish Cream, milk stout and vanilla ice cream or the Muddy Paws with Torres Orange Brandy, Van Gogh Dutch Chocolate Vodka and chocolate ice cream. (1222 Madison St.; 303-736-2260)
Punch Bowl Social: This crazy combo of entertainment complex, upscale greasy spoon and coffee house is named after another of our favorite cocktails. However, Punch Bowl Social also serves up two different adult milkshakes to enjoy. The Milk-Xologist #2 is Leopold Bros. French Press Liqueur, Branca Menthe Liqueur, vanilla ice cream and whip cream topped with nutmeg and the Maker’s Squeal features bacon-infused Maker’s Mark Bourbon, vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, drizzled chocolate and candied bacon. (65 Broadway; 303-765-2694)
ViewHouse: The Coconut Raspberry Colada should cool you down on a hot summer day. Featuring Cruzan Coconut Rum, coconut water, lemon juice, raspberry, pina colada and ice cream, this tasty treat is perfect for sipping on the patio. (2015 Market St.; 720-878-2015)
Yard House: With over 100 beers on tap, changing the root beer float into a draft beer float seemed the next logical step for the Denver Yard House. The restaurant offers two types of adult ice cream floats. Try a chocolate float with Young’s Double Chocolate Stout and vanilla ice cream or make it fruity with Framboise and vanilla ice cream.
