Bars in Denver Kicking Up World Cup Soccer Action

Amo Futebol!

Amo futebol! The FIFA World Cup, which only comes around once every four years, will start Thursday, June 12, in the South American country of Brazil and won’t conclude until Sunday, July 13. That’s a whole month of futebol! Denver’s sports bars are ready. Are you? If not, here is a list of places to get your kicks while watching the world’s beautiful game.

Armoury (2048 Larimer St.; 303-295-0215)
The Armoury was opened in 2013 specifically for the futbol fanatic because the pub’s owner, Kristian Baehre, is one himself. Watch the games on four 50-inch flat screen TVs and one giant SEVEN FOOT screen with surround sound. The pub also has a party bus with service to and from Colorado Rapids home games.

McLoughlin’s (2100 16th St.; 303-573-5131)
This pub in the Riverfront Park area welcomes all fans and will show all the games. The bar also has one of Denver’s longest happy hours from 3 to 7 PM.

Fadó Irish Pub (1735 19th St., Ste. 150; 303-297-0066)
Fado is Denver’s futbol central and they are putting some money where their mouth is. Not only are they showing all 64 games, Fado is a part of the $1,000,000 Soccer Bracket Challenge. Fado pubs all across the country including sister pubs Tigin have put together this challenge. Register online at www.fadotiginwinamillion.com to fill out your game brackets. Basically, pick the winner of every single game in the 2014 World Cup correctly and you win One Million Dollars. Of course, the chances of that are astronomical. However, each pub will offer special stage winners, along with local and national winners, which are more attainable. Prizes are gift cards and HDTVs. See the special website for more information and to register. Fado Denver will also offer World Cup game day menus and drink specials.

Stoney’s (1111 Lincoln St.; 303-830-6839)
Stoney’s wants to be your World Cup headquarters by offering all kinds of specials, including $4.50 Heineken, Newcastle, Strongbow and Dos Equis pints. There will also be promotions with tons of prizes including a grand prize raffle of two 2015 season tickets to the Colorado Rapids. To be eligible for the big raffle, every time you visit Stoney’s during the World Cup, you will get one free raffle ticket and ordering any one of Stoney’s special beers will give you extra chances to win. All grand prizes will be given away on the day of the final. Learn more from Stoney’s website.

Three Lions Pub (2239 E. Colfax Ave.; 303-997-6886)
Three Lions Pub calls itself “A World Football Pub” and the bar backs it up. Not only will the pub show all 64 games, the pub is hosting a special Happy Hour on Thursday, May 29, from 5:30 to 7 PM to support the World Football in Film Festival. The festival is sponsored by Three Lions Pub and the Denver Film Society. The Happy Hour will feature discount tickets to the film festival and a chance to see movie trailers for the all films. Prost Brewing and Patron Tequila will offer a sampling of beverages. The Pub will also host the Black Cleat Affair on Thursday, June 5, at 6 PM. Included is a screening of the documentary film Next Goal Wins. Tickets are $90 and proceeds from both events will benefit American SCORES. Visit the website for more information.

World of Beer (660 S. Colorado Blvd.; 303-757-0506)
On Thursday, June 12, World of Beer Cherry Creek will host a World Cup Kickoff Party all day. The taphouse opens at 2 PM and will feature beer specials and games shown on all the TVs.

Zengo & La Biblioteca1610 Little Raven Street
