Warm Up with Wings at These Denver Bars
Nothing warms people up like a platter of spicy chicken wings on a chilly Denver day. Chicken wings are a lot like snowflakes too; no two places serve wings the same way. Here are five places around town to warm up with wings.
Fire on the Mountain (3801 W. 32nd Ave.; 303-480-9464/WING)
This wing-centric pub is the first certified green restaurant in the Highlands and uses RedBird Farms free-range chicken. They offer traditional and boneless wings as well as meatless wings made from seitan. For the vegan challenged, seitan is a meat substitute made from wheat gluten also called “wheat meat.” They have eleven sauces ranging from mild to El Jefe.
Marco’s Coal-Fired Pizza (2129 Larimer St.; 303-296-7000)
Give tradition an Italian twist with these tasty limbs from Marco’s in the Ballpark Neighborhood. The restaurant spices up wings with some house-made lemoncello and they are served with Vidalia onions and Focaccia bread. Grazie!
Moe’s Original (530 Broadway; 303-630-1980 or 3295 S. Broadway; 303-781-0414)
As a BBQ place, one might not realize that Moe’s has an awesome wings platter. Why so special? Moe’s smokes all their meats, including their drumsticks creating juicy, fall-off-the-bone wings. There are only two sauce choices: Red or White, but that’s all these wings need.
Piper Inn (2251 S. Parker Rd.; 303-755-0771)
This biker bar in southeast Denver can appear intimidating to the casual observer. However, the Piper Inn is a 50-year-old Denver landmark and happens to have an awesome wings platter. The Piper’s wings are cooked in trans-fat-free vegetable oil in either a Buffalo or Chinese style. Sauces are Mild, Medium and HOT.
Willy’s Wings (109 Bear Creek Ave., Morrison; 303-697-1232)
For those who jog or ride the trails in Red Rocks, this joint in Morrison has been serving up wings since 1982. They keep it simple with either traditional or boneless. They have eight sauces ranging from mild to XX-Hot. So before a Red Rocks concert or after a trail bike ride, stop by Willy’s for bite.
