Los Chingones' Opening Warms Up Denver's River North
On December 4, Chef Troy Guard’s newest Denver restaurant, Los Chingones, opened and although the night was the chilly, the food and drinks were totally hot. Get ready Denver; delicious south of the border flavors are happening in River North.
For his latest venture, Chef Guard puts the spotlight on Latin flavors, yet with a Colorado touch. Focusing on quick and effortless tacos, like lamb neck and butternut squash, Los Chingones will surely become a favorite in this youthful neighborhood. The name “Los Chingones” roughly interprets as “badass” and the cocktail menu does not get lost in translation. Here are some of the exciting tastes you’ll find at the bar.
T&T: This cocktail is another trip down memory lane because of its special ingredient: Tang! This sweet and simple drink is made with tequila, lime, Tang, and orange soda. All the orangey goodness you remember as a kid with a pop of tequila. Oh, the joys of being an adult.
Pomegranate Caipirinha: This Brazilian favorite makes it to Mile High City with a fruity touch. Made with Leblon Cachaca, POM Pomegranate-blueberry juice and lime, this simple yet powerful drink will help patrons think warm thoughts this winter. The sugarcane juice-based cachaca provides the sour while the fruit provides the sweet. The flavors come together perfectly.
Los Marg: This simple drink will easily become the house favorite. Made only with Cabrito tequila and house-made sour, the Los Marg is fruity and lime forward. The Los Marg also goes with every dish, from skirt steak tacos to shrimp tostadas, even the pre-meal chips and garden guac.
Kentucky Caliente: Enjoy Big Red gum as a kid? If so, the Kentucky Caliente will take you back. Made with Fireball Whisky, hot tamale syrup, lime, pineapple and soda, this bold cocktail is cinnamon hot and a winter warmer.
Located on the corner of Larimer and Broadway, the two-story Los Chingones has both a downstairs and upstairs bar with an open rooftop patio with downtown views, but that won’t be available until Denver gets some warmer weather. That shouldn’t stop anyone from enjoying these delicious cocktails all winter long.
