Most people would agree a great summer day involves watching a baseball game and having a beer. While the big three (Budweiser, Coors, Miller) have ruled the ballparks for decades, nowadays fans have a world of craft brew available at the game. Denver has taken that concept to a whole new level by putting a full-fledged brewery inside the ballpark. So come on down and enjoy some wonderful baseball brews at the aptly named Coors Field. Go Rockies!
Coors Field is the
only MLB ballpark that can boast its own brewery, the
Blue Moon Brewery at the Sandlot. It's where the original recipe for
Blue Moon Belgian White was created, before the park even opened in 1995. There are some around town who say the Belgian-style wheat ale made at the ballpark is better than what Coors makes down the road in Golden. Don’t believe it? Would four gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival over the last decade help convince you? This year, fans can look forward to a special beer brewed for the Rockies’ 20th anniversary. Simply called
20th Anniversary Ale, the beer is an amber ale and will be served exclusively at the stadium throughout the season.
Blue Moon Brewery is located at the Sandlot on the main concourse of Coors Field behind Section 112 in the rightfield corner and is home to many award-winning microbrews such as Summer Honey Wheat, Harvest Pumpkin Ale and Agave Blonde Ale. The restaurant serves a selection of slightly more refined ballpark food, such as chopped brisket sandwiches, pulled beef nacho grande and a footlong bratwurst. The brewery is only open during baseball season and only during games for ticket holders.
Have a hankering for some of country's other great craft brews? Here are some others you'll find around the park.
The Wazee Market behind Section 137 on the main concourse above 3rd base features courtyard dining with high-top tables and a selection of Colorado hand-crafted beers.
BOW concession stands in Sections 106, 121, 146 and 316 have a selection of beers from Blue Moon, Fat Tire, Sam Adams, Odells, Oskar Blues, Breckenridge Brewery and Colorado Native from Coors.
