In today's high-tech world, things are moving at a fast pace. So how has this changed the local bar or restaurant? Many places are embracing technology and using it in new and interesting ways. Here are a few of those pioneers in and around Denver.
Flagstaff House: This upscale eatery outside of Boulder was the first restaurant in Colorado to put its Wine Spectator grand award-winning wine list on the iPad back in 2011. The restaurant has a wine cellar with over 12,000 bottles, including over 30 vintages of Dom Perignon. According to general manager Scott Monette, the Flagstaff had a wine book the size of War and Peace, which made the iPad wine list extremely popular. The Flagstaff House is located 6,000 feet above sea level with spectacular views of Boulder and the surrounding area (1138 Flagstaff Rd., Boulder; 303-442-4640).
Pepsi Center: For those who enjoy sports, watching a game at the Pepsi Center is a must and Club Level is the place to sit, because technology makes food and beverage service lightning fast. Club Level package tickets for Avalanche and Nuggets games are pre-loaded with a cash credit — anywhere from $10 to $20 depending on the package price. Just let a server swipe the barcode to receive your credit. For those with regular Club Level tickets, when a server takes an order, they type it into a tablet and while you pay the tab — the device takes credit cards — another server brings your order before the transaction is finished. If it weren’t for bathroom breaks, you’d never have to leave your seat (1000 Chopper Circle; 303-405-1100 or 866-461-6556 for TicketHorse).
Lumber Baron Inn and Gardens: For a more romantic evening, consider the Lumber Baron Inn, a Denver tradition since 1991. More than just a B&B, the Lumber Baron also offers murder mystery dinners. So what does the Lumber Baron have to do with technology? You'll find in-room iPads in all five suites, one of the only Denver hotels with that amenity, along with free Wi-Fi. Book a room for one of the dinner theater shows and get two-for-one theater tickets with dinner and drinks. Upcoming shows include Casino Night Heist in March and April and Murder at Shakespeare Chateau in May (2555 W. 37th Ave.; 303-477-8205).
Lala’s Wine Bar: Not only does this popular wine bar and Neapolitan-style pizzeria provide free Wi-Fi for those who can’t sever the laptop cord, they even have a VIP text messaging club for phone addicts. To become a member, text the word “lalas” to 77948 and receive updates, freebies, drink and food specials and more right to your phone. Don't miss happy hour from 3–7 PM and 10 PM–close every day (410 E. 7th Ave.; 303-861-9463).
Also don’t forget to add the Drink Denver web app to your mobile phone to find Denver’s best happy hours, events listings and other fun stuff anywhere, anytime.
