Stranahan's Snowflake Whiskey Goes on Sale Saturday, December 3

No two are alike
by Carrie Dow on Nov 28, 2016 in Event Listing

Stranahan’s Colorado Whiskey will officially release the highly anticipated 2016 Stranahan’s Snowflake, a limited bottle release that only happens once a year. This year’s release will be Saturday, December 3 beginning at 8 AM. The 2016 Snowflake is named The Crestone Peak Edition after one of Colorado’s impressive 14ers. This year is the 100th since Crestone Peak was first successfully summited, which makes it the perfect name for this special batch.

Snowflake is created by Master Distiller Rob Dietrich, who takes Stranahan’s Original and ages it over the course of 18 months in a variety of different casks from all over the world. The whiskey is first aged to fruition no less than two years in new white American oak barrels with a #3 char. The liquid is then transferred for finishing into used wine, sherry, cognac, rum and tequila barrels. Each year’s batch spends a different amount of time in different barrels, so the flavor results change year to year. Dietrich gathers samples from each cask-finish barrel and creates Snowflake strictly by nose and taste. That is the only way to find the perfect blend of casks, and only he knows when the whiskey is ready. Like in nature, no two Snowflakes are alike.

The distillery will allow fans to line up — as in camp out — up to 25 hours in advance to preserve their place in line. The distillery doors will open at 8 AM Saturday, so dress appropriately for the cold. Each bottle will retail for $100 and there is strict two-bottle limit. Only 1400 bottles will be released.
