Ah, the punch bowl. That bastion of social drinking that makes merry events even merrier. While it seems like the punch bowl has been relegated to the college bars, Denver bars and restaurants have taken the punch bowl to a whole new level of sophistication. Here’s where to find drinks made for large groups in Denver.
Punch Bowl Social (65 Broadway; 303-765-2695)
With punch bowl in the name, PBS had to be first on the list. This fun palace on south Broadway lives up to its name in every way. Sip a fine selection of adult punch while you and your friends go bowling. Enjoy the Paper Tiger Punch with Olmeca Altos Blanco Tequila or the Trace of Peach Punch with Buffalo Trace Bourbon. Punch bowls cost from $54 to $72 and serve eight.
El Senor Sol (2301 7th St.; 303-455-2500)
El Senor has been around for a while and when it comes to margaritas, the folks at this old school Mexican bar and grill know their limes. El Senor offers five signature margaritas made with either Corazon or 1800 Tequilas: The Sangria Rita, El Senor Rita, Silver Coin Margarita, Fresh Citrus Margarita and the Colorado Margarita. Large groups can order them in the 60 oz pitchers. Just ask for the Muy Grande.
Hart’s Corner Bar (5201 West Mississippi Ave.; 720-328-6248)
This sports bar and grill, which has been on the corner of Mississippi and Sheridan for over half a century, has a new owner and a new lease on life. One thing that hasn’t changed? The fish bowls. Take your crew to watch the NBA and NHL playoffs and get a bucket of beers or a fish bowl cocktail to share.
The Corner Office (1401 Curtis St.; 303-825-6500)
The Corner Office loves a good punch bowl. So much so they offer one on the drink menu, however the beverage changes with the seasons. For spring enjoy The BBC – Bacardi, Blackberry and Bitters. Made with Bacardi Oakheart, blackberry, mint, lime, bitters and soda water, the drink is a bit mojito-esque. Punch bowls are $45 and serve four people.
