Feeling Anything But Blue at Blue Spruce Brewing Company

For years, there wasn’t much to needle a Denver beer snob to the Mile High City’s outskirts for a pint. That’s changed with the craft-beer explosion, and one of the newest beer makers is Blue Spruce Brewing Company in Centennial.

Open since late April, Blue Spruce features a healthy slate of year-round and seasonal beer styles, including a blonde, double IPA, golden strong ale, honey kolsch, red ale and IPA. Recently, Blue Spruce’s seasonal rotation included a doppelbock, apricot ale and a chili beer made with Hatch chilis—every Coloradan’s favorite import from New Mexico. That’s a nice slate of craft beers, and Blue Spruce also has growlers should any drinkers pine for one of their beers at the hacienda.

While many breweries get started with a few beers of their own, some guest taps and some food trucks, Blue Spruce has branched out to feature an eclectic menu to pair with its beer selection. You’ll find German dishes such as bratwurst and gurkensalat on the same menu as standard American bar staples like cheeseburgers and wings. Mexican offerings include tacos, burritos and one oddity; duritos, a puffed wheat pinwheel that’s described as a Mexican snack. There’s also a kids menu.

At the bar, Blue Spruce offers a number of guest taps. For people who don’t like craft beer, there’s an ample selection of spirits and wines to choose from. Happy hour is from 4–6 PM and means $1 comes off each pint or glass of wine and select appetizers. Blue Spruce’s room is almost cavernous, and features outdoor and indoor patios. The bartenders were plenty friendly—more than happy to discuss sappy 1980s music whilst pouring a pint.

Blue Spruce is deeply rooted in the Fairways Plaza at the intersection of E County Line Road and Colorado Boulevard in Centennial. It was a little hard to find, so you may to GPS it.
