BrewDog vs. Flying Dog International Arms Race Debut, Oct 15-17

There’s an international arms race brewing, and we’re not talking about Iran’s quest for nukes. The battle we’re concerned with is between Scotland’s BrewDog and Frederick, MD’s Flying Dog. Two dogs that brew on-the-edge craft beer? This is a fight for the ages, but one with benefits for beer drinkers everywhere.

In order to see which brewery should reign supreme, they decided to create a beer recipe that had no hops — but plenty of spice from spearmint, bay leaves, rosemary, juniper berries and elderflower — and to have each company brew its own version. Then beer drinkers would taste them both, and decide who was victorious.

The first battle occurred last month in the U.K., and our American team did us proud, besting the BrewDog Scots. Fight number two goes down during three events in October, and you can help decide the winner.

Somewhere across the pond, the dawn is breaking and a team of BrewDog foot soldiers are quietly ironing their kilts, inspecting the viscosity of their blue face paint, and preparing for redemption. A guttural battle cry emerges from the back line and it is determined Alastair from accounting has pulled a hamstring. Only the strong will survive this war.

Head to one of the following bars at the appointed time to sample the two no-hop, zero-IBU International Arms Race brews. May the best beer win.

6 PM, Monday, October 15 at Max’s Taphouse, Baltimore, MD
6 PM, Tuesday, October 16 at RFD, Washington D.C.
6 PM, Wednesday, October 17 at Frisco Tap House, Columbia, MD
