Comedy Central's 'Drunk History' Rolls Cameras at McGillin's

Last weekend, Comedy Central’s smash hit Drunk History paid a visit to McGillin’s Olde Ale House, where host Derek Waters held court and chatted up the crowds while cameras were rolling. Seems rather fitting that the program, which features tipsy narrators slurring their way through historical events that are in turn re-enacted by some of Hollywood’s funniest actors, would set up shop at the city’s oldest, continuously run bar. Barkeeps there were pouring pints from behind the same bar before Lincoln was elected president.

McGillin’s manager Gaby Gock told Drink Philly that a crew of 13 arrived at 6 PM, and stayed at the bar until well after midnight. While there, Waters, who we’re told was cool and totally gracious while sipping Jameson’s all night, interviewed patrons at a corner table on the bar’s second floor. A huge crowd of glammed up and TV-ready folks — not to mention a “ton of boobage” — turned out for the taping. A ComedyCentral rep said that more than 1,000 releases were signed.

Waters called the McGillin’s staff “nice and so accommodating,” before slipping out and heading to South Philly for a cheesesteak at Geno’s. Details about what will actually wind up being used in an episode are being kept under wraps, but whatever it is, it should air sometime this coming summer.
