Cocktail Recipe: Little Italy at Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse

Cocktail Recipe: Little Italy at Davio's Northern Italian Steakhouse

As fall hits, cocktails come back from a trip through spritzy simplicity (gin and tonics are delicious, but not very nuanced) and start to gain heft and flavor. The newest drink on the menu at Davio’s in Rittenhouse certainly has those characteristics.

The Little Italy is a twist on the Manhattan, and uses rye whiskey. To that base liquor is added the traditional sweet vermouth, but also a half ounce of Cynar, which gives it an herbal punch. Cynar is a bitter Italian digestif made from artichokes, along with 13 other herbs and spices.

Check out the recipe below and let us know how your autumn tipple turns out. Or stop into the large, second-floor lounge at Davio’s to have one mixed up by the pros.

Little Italy

2 oz. rye whiskey
¾ oz. sweet vermouth
½ oz. Cynar
Brandied cherries

Mix all liquors in a shaker with ice and shake well. Pour into highball glass and garnish with cherries.
