Drink Pink in October to Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month

To your health!

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a chance for us to reflect, support and raise money for cancer research and help the recovery of cancer survivors. Drink Pink is a common refrain during October as bars, restaurants and breweries help this campaign with fundraising and awareness. DrinkDenver has put together a list of where you can Drink Pink this month. Now go do your part to help by raising a glass and a toast to those we have lost, those still fighting the fight and to those who will never experience this disease in the future because of our efforts.

Denver Beer Company, Princess Yum Yum
During the month of October Denver Beer Company and its distributer, Breakthru Beverage will each donate 5% of the sale of Princess Yum Yum cans, pints, kegs and swag to the Colorado chapter of the American Cancer Society. Princess Yum Yum is a pink colored Raspberry Kolsch that is one of the brewery’s most popular beers and is sold around the state making this a beer you can buy at your local liquor store if you can’t make it to the brewery. Denver Beer and Breakthru will also host the Pink Beer Garden at the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Sunday, October 22, at Fiddler’s Green Amphitheater in Greenwood Village. The beer garden will pour a pint of Princess Yum Yum to all participants.  (1695 Platte St.; 303-433-2739)

Green Flash, Treasure Chest Beer Tapping in Edgewater, October 28
Treasure Chest is a beer brewed by California Brewery Green Flash. The beer was created by brewery Co-Founder Lisa Hinkley because she is a seven-year breast cancer survivor and wants to give back to those who helped through that time. This year’s draft-only release will happen at breweries across the United States, including Edgewater, CO, at Wien Beer Fat Deli. The deli will tap a keg of Treasure Chest on Saturday, October 28, with a percentage of the proceeds donated to Susan G. Komen Foundation. (5350 W. 25th Ave., Edgewater; 303-887-2946)

Left Hand Brewing, In Retrospect IPA
Up in Longmont, this special beer will be on tap all month and $1 of every pint sold is donated to Drink for Pink benefitting Anschutz Medical Campus and the Cancer League of Colorado. In Retrospect is a beer that was brewed on the brewery’s pilot system by Co-Founder Dick Doore in honor of his retirement. Doore brewed the beer just like he would have 30 years using only ingredients that would have been available 30 years go. (1265 Boston Ave., Longmont; 303-772-0258)

Lone Tree Brewing Company, Drink for Pink Corn Hole Tournament, October 15
Also working with Drink for Pink, Lone Tree will host a Corn Hole Tournament on Sunday, October 15, with proceeds going to Cancer League of Colorado to fund research. At this tournament, all proceeds from team entry fees will be donated to the organization. Local food truck, Mama Said Eat, will also be donating tips from the day’s sales to the organization as well. Entry fee includes one free pint per team member and there will be prizes for first and second place. (8200 Park Meadows Dr., #8222; 303-792-5822)

Strange Craft Beer Company, Heather’s Ale
Owner and Head Brewer Tim Myers brews this beer every year to honor the memory of a friend who passed away from breast cancer in 2014. Heather’s Ale is a fresh-hopped IPA made with Cascade Hops from Paonia, Colorado. A portion of the proceeds from every pint sold will go to the American Cancer Society. Says Owner Myers, “Heather was the kid sister of my longtime best friend. This made her my kid sister. Losing Heather at such a young age was really hard. Brewing Heather’s Ale every year helps keep her memory close to my heart.” (1330 Zuni St.; 720-985-2337)

Thirsty Lion, Fresh Press Grapefruit Greyhound and Wycliff Sparkling Rose
Both locations of Thirsty Lion will feature these special drinks all month long with $1 from each drink ordered going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Guests can also donate additional amounts on the bottom of their dining checks. The Greyhound features Deep Eddy Grapefruit Vodka, Fee Brother’s Grapefruit Bitters and fresh pressed grapefruit juice. Wycliff is a California sparkling Brut Rose with a bright pink color and delicate berry and stone fruit flavors. (Downtown, 1605 Wynkoop St.; 303-523-0316: Cherry Creek, 201 Columbine St.; 303-377-7000)
