Boston Beer Company Wants to Trademark 'Brexit'
Nothing is more American than capitalism, and what’s more capitalistic than profiting off strife? That seems to be the approach that Boston Beer Company, the makers of Sam Adams beer and Angry Orchard cider, is taking: The Wall Street Journal recently reported that the brewery has registered to trademark the term “Brexit” for their product.
Brexit is, of course, the word coined to describe the United Kingdom’s contentious decision to withdraw from the European Union. The Leave vote affects hundreds of millions of people in the UK, the EU, and beyond. Now, according to a spokesperson from Boston Beer Company, it will be used on one of the company’s hard ciders. Currently, there’s no report on exactly how it will be used, but we’re sure it’ll be appropriate for this profound, divisive, and monumental event.
