Party with the Rat Pack at the White Christmas Ball, Dec. 6

Think your grandparents don’t know how to party? Well, you’d be wrong and they are going to show us how at the 1940’s White Christmas Ball on Saturday, December 6, at Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver.

The fifth annual White Christmas Ball is a celebration of all things 40s and 50s, a time when a new kind of music called rock and roll was sweeping the country and the boys just returned from war were ready to meet some sweet young things for fun and frivolity. It was also a chance to drink some new concoctions called cocktails like the Mai Tai and the Manhattan.

Doors open at 4 PM for seniors and VIPs with a tribute to Pearl Harbor. The general public can start arriving at 4:30. From 5:30-6:30 PM is the red carpet arrival of stars from the 1940s - Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy David Jr., Jimmy Stewart, Clarence Odbody and Glenn Miller. The evening will start with a Glenn Miller tribute featuring Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra and Taxi Dancing featuring Boulder Swing Dance.

The party continues with the White Christmas Finale with Rosemary, Bing and Danny Kaye and a group conga line. The featured entertainment is the Hot Tomatoes Dance Orchestra Rat Pack Tribute with Frank and the boys at 10:15 PM. After midnight, dance the night away with Cora Vett’s 1940s Band.

Other events include a pin-up contest, burlesque show, swing dancing demonstrations, cocktail demonstrations, sleigh rides (for $5 per person), Christmas trees and light displays and a costume contest for the best dressed vintage fashions. Christmas dinner will be provided by Still Smokin’ Colorado and The Crock Spot for $20 per person (vegan and gluten free options available upon request). Dinner can be purchased on site with cash or credit card. Alcoholic beverages are cash-bar only.

Tickets are $40 per person in advance, $45 at the door. There were a limited number of reserved tables for groups of 2-10 people. Those have sold out, but there is a waitlist for those who really want one. Email info@1940sball.org to get on the waitlist.

Dress code will be enforced and 40s and 50s attire is highly encouraged. Modern cocktail dresses and suits are allowed, but guests are encouraged to add some 40s pizazz with vintage-styled accessories. Military uniforms also encouraged. For those who cannot find vintage attire, wardrobe suggestions can be found on the website.

Once again the White Christmas Ball has partnered with Cambria Suites to provide overnight accommodations and free shuttle service for the event. Special rates are also available at the Double Tree Hilton, but no shuttle. Visit the website for reservation information.
