The Denver Gorilla Run moves to City Park

The 11th annual Denver Gorilla Run is on the move and has a new sponor, the Denver Zoo. In this perfect pairing, the Gorilla Run will now begin in the zoo parking lot at City Park this Sunday, November 2, starting at 10 AM.

For over 10 years, Denverites have been dressing up as gorillas and running around town for a good cause to raise money for the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund. The organization began with the work of famed researcher Dian Fossey over 29 years ago. According to the Denver Gorilla Run website, there are approximately 880 mountain gorillas alive today.

This year the race has moved from LoDo to City Park and has even added events like the Little Gorilla Obstacle Challenge for young runners. The popular Most Creative Gorilla costume contest is still there and ready to see what Denver brings.

First time runners can register for $99 and the gorilla suit is included in the registration. The suit is yours to keep! Those returning who already have a gorilla suit only pay $40. Little Gorillas are $30 which includes their first gorilla suit while returning little ones are only $15. Registration also includes entry to the Denver Zoo for the rest of the day. Registration starts at 9 AM in the parking lots between the Denver Zoo and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. The race begins at 11 AM. For more information call the Gorilla Hotline at 720-524-0272.

Along with the Denver Zoo, the Rockyard Grill and Brewing Company in Castle Rock proudly sponsors this event. The brewery's Silverback Pale Ale is available in cans and 50% of the of the beer's profits go to the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund. After the event, enjoy the Silverback After Party featuring Silverback Pale Ale and Mike's Hard Lemonade and food from Geatano's, LoDo's, Marco's Pizza and Mod Market.

Don't forget daylight savings ends this weekend. Set your clocks back accordingly so you can get to City Park on time.
