Bartenders Come Up with a Drinkable Compendium for the Films of Wes Anderson

From the fictional Republic of Zubrowka, which served as the backdrop for Grand Budapest Hotel, to Richie Tenenbaum's ever-present Bloody Mary in The Royal Tenenbaums, there’s certainly no shortage of drinks and drinking lore shoe-horned into the films of Wes Anderson.

Using that as a jumping off point, Paste magazine this week presents a collection of cocktails inspired by the critically acclaimed director's body of work. The drinks, which touch on everything from the once obscure Bison grass vodka from which the Republic of Zubrowka got its name to the simple Campari on the rocks that Steve Zissou enjoyed in The Life Aquatic, were created by a smattering of San Diego’s top bartenders.

Here a quick rundown of what they came up with:

Madame D: Inspired by The Grand Budapest Hotel, this cocktail from Christian Siglin at Banker’s Hill Bar + Restaurant calls for the aforementioned Żubrówka Bison Grass Vodka, herbal bitters from the czech republic and lime.

The Internship: This one from Sycamore Den’s Eric Johnson riffs of Steve Zissou’s taste for Campari on the rocks, but takes liberties with the addition of fresh grapefruit and lemon juice and French liquer.

Stop Motion: A Benedictine- and Calvados-laden homage to The Fantastic Mr. Fox from CUSP Dining & Drinks bartender Chris Burkett.

Chevalier Pearl: Trevor Easter from Noble Experiment came up with a Cognac and Pastis concoction as a response to Anderson's short film Hotel Chevalier.

The Whitman: Naturally, Darjeeling Tea-infused gin serves as the base for Polite Provisions barman Erick Castro's Darjeeling Limited inspired drink.
