Cool Down: 8 Denver Bars With Great Air Conditioning

With weather experts predicting a hot and scorching August, we've searched out the best places for you to chill with a drink — and we don’t mean just relax — we're talking meat locker, here. Check out these eight great options for cooling off while catching a buzz.

Zengo: People can work up a sweat walking over the bridge from Union Station, so this bar has the AC already pumping when it opens at 5 PM daily. Add to the chill with one of the signature mojitos — "ahhhh" plus "brrrrr" (1610 Little Raven St.; 720-904-0965). 

Wash Park Sports Alley: One way to keep cool is to head underground, and that's exactly where this sports-centric pub is located — in a space underneath Mecca Grill on South Downing Street.  When it’s too hot to sit outside and watch your favorite Denver team, head underground to watch one of the bar’s 24 TVs (266B S. Downing St.; 303-635-6691).

The Tavern and Lodo's Downtown: These two win the prize for keeping us cool when we’re outside. Hello, misters! People can party on each of these rooftops even in the heat, thanks to the misting systems around the perimeter (The Tavern Downtown, 1949 Market Str.; 303-299-0100; Lodo's Downtown, 1946 Market St.; 303-293-8555).

Max Gill and Grill: With all those oysters on ice, how can you not chill at this tavern on Old South Gaylord Street. Did we mention the tiki bar out back? (1052 S. Gaylord St.; 303-722-7456)

Icehouse Tavern: You can tell from the name that this LoDo bar and grill will keep you cool. Get a beer and a burger before or after a Rockies game in air conditioned comfort (1801 Wynkoop St.; 303-292-3775).

D Bar Desserts: Like to keep cool with something sweet? This dessert and wine bar features cake, cookies, and chilling sorbets and ice cream shakes. Enjoy dessert with one the bar’s large selection of wines or nine dessert flavored cocktails (1475 W. 17th Ave.; 303-861-4710).

Cellar Wine Bar: When it gets hot, head to the cellar. Sip on a chilled white wine, a cold brew or even sake with dinner. It doesn’t get any cooler (2556 15th St.; 303-455-9463).
